Positioned as Türkiye's new science and technology hub, the Biotechnology Valley has added another collaboration to its industry-academia partnerships aimed at building Türkiye's biotechnology ecosystem. Within this framework, a 'Strategic Cooperation Protocol' was signed between the Biotechnology Valley and Fenerbahçe University. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Ercan Varlıbaş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BİYOSAD and BİOSB, and Prof. Dr. Fatma Kanca, Rector of Fenerbahçe University. Having previously signed strategic cooperation protocols with Gebze Technical University, Yıldız Technical University, and Üsküdar University, the Biotechnology Valley has increased the number of its industry-academia partnerships to four with this new collaboration with Fenerbahçe University. Through these collaborations, the Biotechnology Valley aims to build a strong biotechnology ecosystem where knowledge is transformed into production and universities and industry converge around a shared vision.

"OUR GOAL IS TO MAXIMIZE OUR COUNTRY'S POTENTIAL IN THE FIELD OF BIOTECHNOLOGY."

Dr. Ercan Varlıbaş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BİYOSAD and BİOSB, stated after the signing ceremony: “As the Biotechnology Valley, our goal is to maximize our country's potential in the field of biotechnology and to bring academia and industry together in a strong ecosystem. Every new collaboration is a concrete step towards this vision and plays a critical role in increasing our country's innovation capacity. The Strategic Cooperation Protocol we signed with Fenerbahçe University will enable young researchers to meet with industrial experience and integrate academic knowledge into real production processes. In this way, we are building a sustainable ecosystem not only for today but also for future generations.”

"WITH THE Türkiye PAVILION WE WILL ESTABLISH IN SAN DIEGO, WE WILL EXPLAIN OUR COUNTRY'S VISION."

Dr. Ercan Varlıbaş stated that they will establish a Turkish Pavilion at the International Biotechnology Congress to be held in San Diego, USA, from June 22-25, 2026, saying, “With the Turkish Pavilion we will establish at the International Biotechnology Congress to be held next June, we will explain the industry-academia-government collaborations carried out in the Biotechnology Valley, the projects we have developed, and innovative solutions to investors. We aim to showcase Türkiye's capabilities in the field of biotechnology on the world stage, strengthen international collaborations, and make our country a global center of attraction in this field.”

"WITH THIS COLLABORATION, ACADEMIC KNOWLEDGE WILL EMERGE FROM LABORATORIES AND MEET THE INDUSTRY."

Following the signing ceremony, Fenerbahçe University Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Kanca made the following remarks: “This strategic cooperation protocol we have signed with the Biotechnology Valley is an extremely valuable step in terms of universities moving beyond being merely knowledge-producing institutions and transforming this knowledge into social and economic value. Today, new research areas emerging at the intersection of biotechnology, artificial intelligence, health sciences, and engineering disciplines are shaping the scientific and technological transformation of the future. In this transformation, the combination of the research power of universities and the application capacity of industry is of great importance.”

Professor Dr. Fatma Kanca stated that Fenerbahçe University encourages interdisciplinary research and adopts a practice-based education approach. She added that through this collaboration with the Biotechnology Valley, they aim to bring academic knowledge production out of laboratories and into the real sector, enable students to receive on-the-job training through 'sector-oriented education', and cultivate a qualified workforce.
